Meeting of the wExchange partners in Athens

On 22 May to 23 May 2024, a meeting of the ongoing wExchange project took place at the University of West Attica in Athens, Greece. The two-day meeting brought together project partners from Greece, Slovenia, Portugal, and Finland to discuss progress and plan future steps.

Insights and wishes: Analysing the survey results

The meeting began with a detailed examination of the preliminary results of our recent surveys, which aimed to assess the impact of our interventions. Despite the greater participation—190 respondents in the pre-survey and 223 in the post-survey, totalling 413 — we observed no significant changes in the results.

Empowering educators: A roadmap for dissemination

It was decided that each participating country would deliver a 4-hour training for teachers focusing on key topics such as mental health awareness, wellbeing and support techniques. These trainings aim to equip educators with the knowledge and tools they need to create a supportive learning environment.

Setting the stage for exchange

In addition to the local initiatives, we are pleased to announce a two-hour international dissemination webinar led by the proactive team at the University of Novo mesto. Scheduled for April-May 2025, promises to be a cornerstone event, bringing together 50 participants from each country to share insights, strategies, and success stories.

Innovation with impact:  Implementation and Method Guides

The development of the Implementation guide for the use of peer-based methods to promote mental wellbeing in schools and Methods guide for virtual exchange were other key agenda items that were tackled with enthusiasm. These tools are intended to be more than just a manual; they are intended as a catalyst to enable educators to harness the power of virtual sharing to improve learning outcomes.

Beyond the agenda: Networking and cultural exchange

The setting for our meeting — the picturesque campus of the University of West Attica — offered more than just a venue. It provided a backdrop for spontaneous interactions and cultural exchanges that enriched the experience and deepened the bonds between participants.

Reflecting on the productive discussions and ambitious plans forged during the meeting in Athens, we can see that the wExchange project is making great strides towards creating a supportive and understanding environment for mental health in educational institutions worldwide. The road ahead is promising, and together we are paving the way for meaningful change.
